About the Group
Radiology & Imaging, Inc. (R&I) is a privately-held, sub-specialized independent radiology practice that has served western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut for more than 35 years. R&I is the largest radiology practice in western Massachusetts, interpreting more than 600,000 imaging studies per year for hospitals, academic centers, and outpatient imaging sites throughout the Pioneer Valley region.
The group is the exclusive provider of inpatient and outpatient radiology services for Baystate Medical Center — a 653-bed academic medical center and the Western campus of Tufts University School of Medicine — along with three additional Baystate community hospitals and a network of outpatient imaging sites. R&I radiologists direct the Baystate Radiology Residency program and provide medical-student teaching across all imaging modalities.
R&I prides itself on being a physician-led, locally owned independent practice deeply integrated with an academic teaching hospital — a distinctive structure that gives partners academic engagement and residency teaching opportunities while preserving private-practice compensation.
R&I offers fellowship-aligned subspecialty roles with academic teaching opportunities at UMass Chan Medical School and hybrid/onsite flexibility across its Pioneer Valley footprint. R&I offers different tracks including partnerships and employee positions. Both full-time and part-time positions are considered; remote-friendly reads available for select subspecialties.
Why Springfield, MA?
The Pioneer Valley / Connecticut River Valley sits in one of the most desirable corners of New England — 30 minutes from Bradley International Airport (BDL), 90 minutes from Boston, 2 hours from New York City, 1-2 hours from the Berkshires, and 2.5 hours from Cape Cod. The region is anchored by Springfield, MA, and Northampton (home to Smith College), with the Five-College Consortium (Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, Smith, UMass-Amherst) driving an unusually strong cultural and educational fabric for a market this size. Median home prices in the Pioneer Valley run roughly $325K–$450K — a fraction of metro Boston or NYC, with significant upside in Longmeadow, East Longmeadow, and Northampton. Top-tier public school districts include Longmeadow, East Longmeadow, Wilbraham, Amherst-Pelham, and Northampton. Massachusetts state income tax is a flat 5.0% (9% surtax on income above $1M), and Connecticut residents (for the Enfield site) sit at a graduated 3.0–6.99% rate. Year-round outdoor activity — hiking the Holyoke Range and the Mount Tom State Reservation, kayaking the Connecticut River, skiing at Berkshire East / Jiminy Peak / Stratton (1–2 hours), Norwottuck Rail Trail, and the New England fall foliage — makes the Pioneer Valley a true four-season destination.Who They're Hiring
